Poetry readings, Athens

Novelist and poet Kirsten Kaschock will read from her newly released novel Sleight (Coffee House Press) at 7PM, November 2nd @ AVID BOOKSHOP (Beside PC-Athens, 493 Prince Ave, Athens, GA 30601)

Kirsten Kaschock has earned degrees from Yale University, the University of Iowa, Syracuse University, and the University of Georgia. The author of two collections of poetry, Unfathoms and A Beautiful Name for a Girl, she resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she is currently a doctoral fellow in dance at Temple University.

Jenn Blair will open for Kaschock. Jenn Blair's Six Directions (Anaphora Press) follows a group of American and English visitors to Israel. Last year her novel The True and Full Account of Charlotte Monroe was a finalist for the Doris Bakwin Prize (Carolina Wren Press). She has published in Copper Nickel, New South, Southloop Review, Cold Mountain Review, Montreal Review, and Tulane Review among others. She is from Yakima, WA.

Renowned Beat-era feminist poet & performance artist Anne Waldman will read at Athica in Athens, GA. She will read from works that are a result of collaborations with visual artists such as Red Grooms, Elizabeth Murray, Kiki Smith, Pat Steir & Richard Tuttle.

Celebrated GRANARY BOOKS produced editions with Carolee Schneeman, Susan Rothenberg & Donna Dennis.

Colors in the Mechanism of Concealment (2004, 7 min.) and Screen Screen Text (8 min.) -- two short videos made in collaboration with spouse Ed Bowe -- will also be screened.

Colors in the Mechanism of Concealment is a stinging film on the U.S. imprisonment at Guantanamo Prison, with music by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Poetry reading, Athens


Poet Seaborn Jones will read this Saturday from his award-winning poetry and sign his books during a reception, with doors opening at 6:30pm ($10) at the Healing Arts Centre. All are welcome.

Seaborn Jones is the author of five books, including X-Ray Movies (MAS) which received the Georgia Author of the Year Award in Poetry. He has been published in the New York Quarterly, Southern Poetry Review, River Styx, Chattahoochee Review, and elsewhere.
